In collaboration with the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, RUYA organised a residency for Iraqi painter and printmaker Jafar Mohamed. Jafar was given his own studio space and supervision from professors at the Scuola. As well as a guided tour of Venice, its churches and museums, and the ongoing Venice Biennale exhibition, RUYA organised a trip to Florence for the artist. At the end of his stay, the Scuola held an exhibition of Jafar’s work, where he also gave a talk.

Jafar Mohamed in Venice: First week

As the Welcome to Iraq exhibition at the 55th Venice Biennale draws to an end, Ruya supported the Iraqi artist Jafar Mohamed during a month long residency at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice. Jafar was given his own studio space, and weekly mentoring from the Scuola’s curators and tutors.
